First Week- 363 days to go.

It's been one week since I said my goodbye's and made my way here to Camp Atterbury Indiana.   I have settled in to my barracks.  As a medical officer I did go to basic training or anything even remotely like it.  So its foreign to now find myself on this army post, living in barracks with communal showers.   It's actually not as bad as I expected it would be.   I do miss my nice cozy bed and showers at home.

My first 5 days were spent immersed in Pashto language and Afghan culture training to prepare for being in country.  We enjoyed having traditional Afghan food.  The last 2 days were for the medics learning to teach Combat Life Saving to the non-medics.  The schedule here appears to be full and no SCHEDULED days off until June 7th.  I am hopeful that this does not hold true and that we may have some downtime between now and then.

I have met some nice people here so far.  Interesting dynamics between the Navy, Army and Air Force-the female barracks feel more like a sorority house than an Army Barracks much of the time.  That's about all to say about that.

No pictures this time but as we get more combat training I'm sure that I'll have some good ones to post.
Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes, its nice to know I have so many behind me.

Extraordinary people survive under the most terrible circumstances and they become more extraordinary because of it.
